I'm so glad you've found my classroom website. This is going to be a great year in our class. We've got a lot to accomplish in 180 days but with your help I know we'll be able to soar! Here's a little about my background. I have been a teacher for 16 years, 12 in special education in fifth grade and 4 in third grade as a classroom teacher. I was given the opportunity to switch to a third grade classroom teacher position four years ago and I jumped at the chance. I thought, how different can it be? Well it's been more than I imagined it ever could be! I'm so glad I took the chance. I live in Barnstable which means I have a bit of a commute but the half hour each way gives me lots of thinking time, which is a good thing. I live with my husband, Cem, a bunch of chickens and one very large, bossy cat named Bear. My three children are grown with lives of their own, with all three living on the west coast.
I like to infuse my teaching with humor and creativity but I never lose site of all that we must accomplish in third grade. Will there be struggles? Of course, but nothing was ever accomplished without a little struggle. Don't be afraid to let your child work through a problem, it will make them good problem solvers and better students in the long run. I encourage parent communication. Please feel free to call me, email me or send in a note if there is a problem or even if there isn't! I will respond as fast as I can. I typically don't get a chance to check my email during the day; there's just too much going on. I will always check when the students go home.
We are very fortunate to have a wonderful assistant in our class this year. Mrs. Bergstrom has been with the school for 15 years. She is a very talented and creative person who is incredibly caring and empathetic towards all students. They know they are able to go to her for help as comfortably as they do me.
