Spelling Homework Each Monday the students will be given a new list of spelling words to study from our Wonders Reading series. They will be in a plastic sleeve in their binder for them to study. Homework will be assigned Monday through Wednesday with a quiz on Friday. I will post the list of words here in the event your child loses their list or are absent on a Monday. Click here for this week's spelling words! Reading Journal Your child is required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. We have been practicing how to write in our reading journals all week. In the front of their journal you will see questions/ prompts for them to use when responding to writing. On Monday they will bring home their journal to complete after reading. They must do a minimum of two entries during the week. Their journal needs to be returned to school on Friday. I will check their journal and give them either a check or check plus based on content and neatness. Math We will be following a program this year call Engage New York. It is very comprehensive and will focus not only on the Standards but on problem solving and will foster the difficult skill of explaining your thinking. Nauset has developed a plan that we follow to ensure that we cover all the Common Core standards that all third grade students must learn over the course of the year. Each night your child will bring home a worksheet to reinforce what was learned that day. You should not have to reteach this information. If your child does not understand how to complete the sheet, please write a note in their planner and I will work with them in the morning. Projects Over the course of the year I will be assigning projects in many different forms that will reinforce what your child is learning. I will always send home directions, a timeline and a grading rubric for completion but will also put information on this page for you to reference.
